Residential Crime

Property is burgled every 25 seconds with burglaries accounting for 22% of recorded crime. In our experience 50% of installations are as a result of a break in. Customers have advised us they had been thinking about an alarm, but were not sure of cost or if there would be a mess. See our FAQs below.

Based on findings from a small sample of burglars in a study, over half of the offenders felt deterred by occupancy, visible burglary alarms or high visibility at the point of entry. Findings from a small group of active burglars indicated that for a sample of 30 active offenders, 90% stated that they avoided selecting houses that appeared to be occupied.

How quickly can an alarm system be installed and will it cause disruption and mess?

We can normally book your installation within 1 week. Allow 1 full day for installation. There will be no mess or disruption due to the flexibility of our digital wireless detection.

Will a wireless alarm system be reliable?

Yes. All our wireless alarm systems are Insurance Grade 2 and don’t suffer the problems of the old analogue and DIY style wireless alarms. Our alarms use a dedicated digital Class 6 frequency and rest assured that only these systems installed by an approved installer meet the stringent standards for Police response and Insurance recognition.

Do batteries need to be changed in a Digital wireless system.

Yes. The old analogue alarms needed batteries changed every 6 - 12 months. Our digital Approved systems have lithium batteries which will last for 3 years. This coincides with a normal hardwired system which still has back up batteries that need changed every 3 years also.

Is there a limit to the amount of wireless detectors the system can take?

Yes. Our alarm systems are capable of having both hard wired and wireless detectors. The bells only system we do can take up to 8 wired detectors, and/ or 8 wireless detectors and up to 8 remote controls. Our Phones You Direct or Police Monitored Systems have up to 40 hard wired detectors, and/or 16 wireless detectors. The largest wireless system we offer at the moment can have up to 140 wireless detectors. The largest hardwired system can have up to 500 wired detectors.

Can the Digital wireless remote controls be copied by potential burglars?

No they work using high security rolling code, it sends a different coded signal each time you press the button.

Can you Install a hard wired system if I prefer?

Yes. UK Security has been installing hard wired systems for over 20 years now.

Can I transfer my maintenance and monitoring easily from my current provider to a new company?

Yes. Transfer of alarm and monitoring maintenance is simple and very common. Click for further details.

How much does maintenance and monitoring cost?

Residential customers prices are £72 per annum. This is often paid by direct debit of £6 per month for Maintenance cover. Monitoring and Maintenance is generally £180 per annum or £15 per month direct debit  (Terms & Conditions Apply). Larger systems will be individually priced.
Commercial systems vary in size and cost, please contact us for competitive rates.

What does my maintenance contract cover?

All new installations are comprehensively covered for all 24hour call outs, parts, labour, service visits, technical support and of course meet with your insurance company's requirements for having your system maintained by an Approved Company.

If I have questions with regard to specific requirements of the alarm during and after installation is it easy to speak to someone?

As we do not use call centres to field our calls, maintained customers will have direct access to fully qualified engineers 24hrs.

What is the normal procedure if I have a problem with the alarm?

Contact our office and technical support can be given via the phone or an engineer will attend.

I have lost my user manual on how to operate the alarm system, how do I get another one?

What are the general causes of false activations with a security alarm system?

Any movement within a room eg party balloons, decorations, objects falling over, spiders at detectors and flying insects.

My alarm is having problems but has not been installed by your company, can you repair it?

Yes, on most occasions we can repair or upgrade it. Contact us for advice and costs.
